ESSD BackSnack program

Harvesters’ BackSnack program provides a weekly backpack filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend. More than 100,000 children in Harvesters’ service area receive free and reduced-price school meals during the week, and many of those are at risk of hunger on weekends. This program helps to ensure these children receive food during their time away from school.

The Good Samaritan Center needs volunteers to help repackage these items in nondescript bags to help students avoid embarrassment from their peers. Two or three volunteers can do the work in a couple of hours on Mondays during the school year.

If you wish to volunteer during the next school year, contact Michelle Vasquez, GSC Volunteer Coordinator at 816-630-2718, ext. 26 or e-mail volunteer4goodsam@goodsamaritancenter.com.
