Pastor

Laura Blevins

Send Email
Hello, I'm Pastor Laura Blevins and I came to the First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs in June of 2015.  My husband, Jeremy, is also a pastor and currently serves the wonderful people of the Richmond United Methodist Church.  Jeremy is a great partner and is always putting up with me talking about him in my sermons.  Together, we have three amazing kids and one ornery golden retriever.

One of the best things about my position at the First United Methodist Church is that I get to watch God working through the amazing people at my church.  I am extremely interested in history and have found so much wonderful history to celebrate both here at the church and in Excelsior Springs.

I love to laugh and tell jokes (all of which I think are hilarious).  I also enjoy to read and play a mean game of Apples-to-Apples.  Most importantly, I love my family and always look for ways to have fun together. I've told you a little bit about me, now I would love to hear about you. Please e-mail me and let's get to know one another.

Administrative Assistant

Karen Glamann

Send Email

Hi, my name is Karen Glamann.  I am originally from Sioux City, Iowa but now live in Kearney.  I have worked as the Administrative Assistant  here at the First United Methodist Church for almost 8 years, beginning in October 2008.

My favorite thing about the church is the people.   I truly enjoy the relationships with my friends here at First United Methodist Church and I enjoy helping people.

I am married to my wonderful husband, Trent and and we have two children.  We live in Kearney and we have a furry child, a golden retriever, named Sky. My favorite hobby is reading and learning to sew.  I love spending time with my family.

I organize and orchestrate the business operations here at the church. I assist Pastor Laura with her scheduling and other responsibilities. I also am responsible for the scheduling of meetings and events here at the church. When you call the church, I'll be the one on the other end of the line! If you have questions or need assistance with anything here at the church, I'll be happy to help.

Communications Director

Brian Rice

Send Email

Hi, I'm Brian Rice, communications director for the First United Methodist Church. I've been part of this church family most of my life, but recently returned to this church with my lovely wife, Christi, and youngest daughter, Emily. I have two other children, Brad and Laura, who are well on their way to becoming young, talented responsible adults of their own.

My "day job" is newspaper publisher of The Excelsior Springs Standard / The Richmond NewsTown & Country Leader, but my love is to use my talents of creativity, writing and graphic design for God's purpose and to help our church reach out to as many people as possible. My dream is to not only help our church family grow closer together, but to help everyone in our community get a chance to learn about God and to learn what a difference He can make in their lives. Plus, I get to design some really cool stuff!

I love to draw cartoons and thus my family jokes around a lot! I've been a fan of Star Trek all my life and so I've become quite fond of technolgy and all the gadgets that now exist because of ST -- especially anything that begins with a lowercase "i". If you have news to share or need information about our church, I'm the guy to contact!

Accompanist

Julie Capps

Hi, I'm Julie Capps, accompanist for the First United Methodist Church.

I grew up in Maysville and attended Missouri Western State College. I moved to Texas in 1980 and graduated from the University of Texas.  I began her teaching career in Odessa, TX at a Visual and Performing Art School, where I taught strings, choir and band for nine years.

While in Texas, I took over the band at San Jacinto Junior High in Midland, the only woman band director in many a mile in West Texas.  There, my band played for George W. Bush, an alumni of SJ.

I moved back to MO in 1995 to get closer to family and taught Band at Bolivar for two years, followed by a position at Santa Fe RX, where I taught general music, choir and band for nineteen years.

I'm recently retired, finishing my thirty-six year teaching career in Grant City as the band and choir director at Worth County R3.  I have a Master's in Flute Performance. I've been published several times, and have been a performer and presenter at MMEA several times.   I'm a member of MMEA, MBA, NAFME, NEA, MNEA, MWBDA, WBDI and Phi Beta Mu. I'm a charter member of Missouri Women Band Directors’ Association and am currently serving as the Past President. I also served as the Industrial Membership Chair on the Executive Board for the Women Band Directors International, as well as the representative for Missouri.

I won Missouri Teacher of the Year Award for 2009, and hold an honorary Chapter Degree from the Santa Fe FFA.  I have been a presenter for several professional organizations, adjudicates music festivals in Missouri and Kansas, have been a performer and conductor for the Lexington Wind Ensemble, flutist in the Northwinds Symphonic Band and am the piccolo player in the Cameron Municipal Band. I also began recently playing as a member of "Kammermusik,” a chamber music ensemble. I'm listed in the 2005/2006 book of outstanding American teachers, nominated by one of my band students.

I have conducted and performed with Church Choirs, Children’s Choirs and hand bell choirs, as well as serving as pianist, most recently as the organist at Christ Episcopal Church in Lexington, MO.

I have three sons:  Tommy, Max and Joshua, who all love to play music, and one adorable granddaughter, Nova.

I'm an avid reader and love animals and flowers.

Children's Ministries Director

Michelle Huettenmueller

Send Email
Hello, I'm Michelle (Logston) Huettenmueller and I am so excited to be part of the UMC family as Director of Children’s Ministries.

I was born and raised here in Excelsior Springs and I have vivid memories of my time in the youth group at UMC.  I attended college at NW Missouri State Univ. where I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and later my Master’s in Reading Education.  I am currently in my eighth year of teaching with this being my fourth year in Excelsior.

I am passionate about learning and teaching so this opportunity to be the Director of Children’s Ministries not only fulfills these passions but is giving me an opportunity to grow stronger in my faith alongside some great kiddos and their families.

My mission with the Kids Worship is to bring children to a better understanding of our God and what they can do to go out into the world and be positive examples of His love.  Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve our church community.
