Sunday Morning Worship

Sunday morning at our church

We understand visiting a new church can be a nervous or stressful time. But here at the First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs, you'll find some of the friendliest people in the area, full of energy and warmth, ready to welcome you and your family as soon as you reach the front door! We'll be more than happy to help you every step of the way through our morning worship service!

Our Sunday morning schedule:

9 a.m. — we offer Sunday School classes for children (from toddlers and up) and adults. You can browse our available classes in other sections of our "Worship + Ministries" category of this web site.

10 a.m. — Worship Service. When you visit our church, you will be welcomed by one of our greeters at the door and given the opportunity to register your attendance.  We just want to say "thank you" for sharing our worship service. One of our ushers will be happy to help you into the sanctuary and help you find a comfortable seat.

Children are always welcome in worship. Having children present in the church service with their families is an important belief in Pastor Laura's ministry. However, a nursery is available during the worship service for children from newborn to 2 years old if needed. Our nursery staff and assistants are certified in the United Methodist's Safe Sanctuary policy, ensuring our children and youth are safe and sound throughout the worship service. If you need nursery services, an usher will be happy to direct you and introduce you Wilma Smith, our nursery supervisor.

Amenities: our church facility has public restrooms with baby changing stations in the narthex opposite the sanctuary. There is also a family restroom for your convinence. Our building also includes a fellowship hall for receptions, a kitchen, a prayer chapel and so much more. A tour of our facilities can be arranged by talking to one of our ushers or greeters.

Our Music

Music in our worship service is selected from one of two sources: "The United Methodist Hymnal" or the Methodist's "The Faith We Sing" book. Music is played by our accompanist Jerri Morris and directed by Kelli Hoffman. From September through May, we have a Chancel Choir that sings with the congregation and provides special music during the Offertory. We also have an adult Bell Choir that performs once per month September through May.

Ensembles, solos, and duets also enhance our worship services occassionally.  Children's groups perform during special holidays like Easter and Christmas.

Our church has a passenger van and offers transportation to and from church every Sunday morning for those without a vehicle who live in the Excelsior Springs area. If you'd like to arrange for us to pick you up to attend a worship service, call our church office at 816-637-2138 or email us during our office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. to learn more and to make arrangements.
